In India, all motorized road vehicles are required to have a vehicle registration plate (also known as a “number plate”). This registration plate is issued by regional transportation offices (RTOs) throughout the State. The number plates are installed on both the front and back of the vehicle following RTO number plate rules.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to Section 39 of the Motor Vehicles Act of 1988, no person shall drive, cause, or permit the vehicle to be driven in any public place or another place unless the vehicle has been registered following the Act, the vehicle’s certificate of registration has not been suspended or canceled, and the vehicle bears a registration mark displayed as prescribed. The Section also allows state governments to specify the conditions under which the provisions of this section do not apply to motor vehicles in the possession of dealers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In India, all motorized road vehicles must be tagged with a registration or license number, also known as a number plate. The district-level transportation office issues the vehicle registration plate, which is displayed on the front and back of the vehicle. All vehicles must have a registration number, and driving without one is prohibited under the Central Motor Vehicle Rule (CMVR). Running a vehicle without a registration number is illegal, as is operating a vehicle with an “Applied For” (A\/F) plate, which is only permitted for new vehicles until a permanent registration number is obtained. Therefore, it is not permissible for the police to drive a vehicle without a number in India, where all vehicles must be registered under the Motor Vehicles Act of 1989.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
