This is not accurate as a complaint is civil in nature and the purpose of the Act is to provide protection and financial relief to the woman rather than automatically impose a punishment. It is only after a Judicial Officer issues a court order and the abuser violates the order, or a violation of a separate crime related to domestic violence (e.g. cruelty, dowry harassment, criminal intimidation) that the state will take separate criminal action against the abuser.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Therefore, a complaint of domestic violence does not, in and of itself, establish that the abuser has committed the act of domestic violence.
