What is Marriage Counselling?

Marriage Counselling is a form of Counselling for married couples or couples who are engaged and this is required because either or both partners strive to maintain an ideal marriage. The counsellor helps couples to understand the behaviour of each other and a few aspects of each other’s personality and most importantly they guide the couple to accept their spouse as they are.

It is of 2 types and the goals of both may vary:

Pre-Marital Counselling

It is opted by couples who are in a relationship or engaged and want to take their relationship to the next level i.e. marriage. The Counsellor can help the couple understand their partner in a much better way, especially at times when both or any of the partners realise that they are not compatible with each other in terms of values, beliefs and ideologies.

Post-Marital Counselling:

This type of counselling is for couples who are already married and there is no bar to no. of years of marriage. There are various choices and different ways of thinking for every married couple.  Views of spouses can differ from various perspectives such as emotions, parenting styles or intimacy issues etc.

The objective of Counselling:

The goal of marital counselling can vary from couple to couple depending upon which issue the couple is facing, for example, an intimacy issue is creating problems in the relationship then finding its root cause and planning to discuss it with the couple in an environment where they can freely open up about their problems will be the part of planning.
