What to do if police abuse you

India is a democratic country full of powerful people and government officials and servants provided with specific powers with different government posts, to ensure the safety and security of the people of India, but it’s not always practical when it comes to using that power. Brutally abusing of powers is most commonly found by police officers and always witnessed in public places and on private premises as well, but the normal public never usually dares to raise a voice against them because they usually get the fear of being arrested or getting physically abused by police officers or they aren’t aware of their rights and law

A police officer or an officer of a lower rank can abuse you with their power in many ways like Bribing or lobbying, Police brutality, Falsification of evidence or police reports, Police harassment, etc.

A normal public should be aware of the laws and really what to do in a situation like this:-

If any police officer is trying to bribe you or attempting to influence you in a written or oral communication for some personal gain, you can always take action against them, there are some prevalent laws mentioned under the Indian Penal Code and the specific section 7 under the prevention of corruption act

If any police officer is getting brutal to you in any way, it’s basically a violation of civil rights so there is a remedy against their actions, whereas if any officer mistreats his powers and abuses any individual with such force which is not in the requirement, then under section 197 of Code Of Criminal Procedure gives the power to interfere by way of sanction thru central government, if any police officers need to be prosecuted for any criminal activity

Similarly committing perjury or giving false testimony on the part of the witness, is also very commonly committed by police officers and considered to be the most flagitious police corruption. So, if you face anything like this, then under section 193 of the Indian Penal Code, whoever intentionally fabricates or gives any false evidence under any stage of the judicial proceeding that person is can be imprisoned for up to 3 years or with fine

Ordinary citizens were always being harassed by these police officers being wrongly questioned, search and seizures, arrested, and accusations of mistreating any individual in public by using physical force, that police officer can get punished under section 129 of the Indian Penal Code

So, if any individual faces any misconduct or being part of ill-treatment done by these police officials which is very common to be part of their harassment, in any of the situations.
