Who can apply for PM Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana.

The Prime Minister of India introduced PM Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana in the year 2019 for the benefit of the farmers as well as their families, where a sum of Rs 2000 was sent to the farmers.

The objective of the yojana was to provide financial support to all landholding farmers’ families in the country to help them procure various inputs relating to agricultural activities along with domestic needs. Previously only the Small & Marginal farmers families having 2-hectare land holding were eligible under the Yojana. However, later it was revised to include all the families of farmers irrespective of the size of landholdings. Only the registered farmers families will receive a sum of Rs 6000 annually in 3 equal installments every four months. In-eligible farmers wrongly taken advantage of PM Kisan Yojana:

The government lost Rs 2900 crore due to the availing of the scheme by more than 42 lakhs ineligible people. Several farmers took advantage of the scheme by giving false details whereas others were not sure of the eligibility for availing of the scheme. The scheme has certain terms and conditions, fulfilling which the money was transferred to the account of the farmer. Thus, the money which has been transferred to the ineligible farmers is now being recovered from those farmers.

According to certain reports it has been claimed that notices are being served to the ineligible farmers by the concerned authorities and the money transferred is recovered from them.

While PM Kisan Samman Niddhi Yojana was launched, several frauds took place such as both the husband and wife took advantage of the scheme, even the funds were wrongly transferred to someone else’s account or false information of Aadhar.

Consequence of the advantage wrongly taken by the farmers

Narendra Singh Tomar, the Agriculture Minister responded to a question stating that the selection or identification of the beneficiaries for PM Kisan Yojana is the State as well as Union Territory government’s responsibility. The government is also responsible for verifying the data of the beneficiaries of the scheme. The Agriculture Minister states that the government is responsible to recover the deposited amount from the ineligible farmers.
