I am from Hyderabad. I was the owner of a four-wheeler. In 2016, I sold my vehicle to a buyer through a broker and handed over all the signed documents for the change of ownership. After that, I did not check whether the transfer was completed or not. In 2023, when I tried to purchase a new car in my name, I was informed that a vehicle was still registered in my name according to RTA records. To buy a new car, I would need to pay additional taxes. I tried contacting the buyer, but he was untraceable. I later learned from the broker that the vehicle was given for scrap. As of today, the RC of that vehicle has expired. I request you to kindly guide me on how to proceed with removing my name from the vehicle registration.
Since the vehicle is still in your name, you can file a "Transfer of Ownership" application with the RTA. Attach the proof of sale (if available) and any other documents. If the buyer is untraceable, request an affidavit from the broker and submit a complaint to the RTA to remove your name. For further legal assistance contact us on our helpline number.
