I would like to know the procedure and document requirements for a court marriage under the Special Marriage Act, 1954. I am originally from Jharkhand, and my partner is from Prayagraj (Allahabad), Uttar Pradesh. We both possess our educational certificates and other necessary identity documents from our respective states. I have been residing in Hyderabad for the past seven years and possess local address proofs, including a gas bill and electricity bill. Can we solemnize our marriage in Hyderabad under the Special Marriage Act, and what documents and procedural requirements would apply in our case?
Under the Special Marriage Act, 1954, marriage can generally be registered in a district where either party has resided for at least 30 days before filing the notice. Since you have been residing in Hyderabad for seven years and possess local address proof, you may be eligible to apply there. Submit the required identity, age, address, and photograph documents and follow the statutory notice procedure. For further legal assistance contact us on our helpline number.
