Is divorce needed if marriage is not registered after two months?

Even if the marriage is not registered, it is still legally valid if solemnized according to personal or religious customs. Therefore, a proper divorce decree from a family court is mandatory to legally dissolve the marriage. Registration is only for official recordkeeping. Without divorce, remarrying may be considered bigamy, which is punishable under Indian law. For further legal assistance contact us on our helpline number.
