My marriage is scheduled for 26th February in Nagpur as per the rituals. I want to apply for the marriage certificate in Mumbai, as I live here, while my spouse is from Nagpur. Do we need a certificate from the Pandit? The Pandit is unaware of any format or signature requirement. Is it mandatory to have the Pandit's signature? I wanted to register the marriage in Nagpur, but they are asking for a bachelorhood certificate, which will be provided by the Ministry of External Affairs. Why is this document needed for the marriage certificate?
For a marriage certificate, the signature of the Pandit is generally not mandatory. If the registry office in Nagpur requires a bachelorhood certificate, they likely ask for proof of single status. The Ministry of External Affairs’ involvement might be due to requirements from the embassy if your spouse is from abroad. Confirm with the registry office for clarity.
