I want to marry my foreign partner under the Special Marriage Act since we follow different religions. My permanent address is in another city, but I’m currently living elsewhere. When I visited the local registrar’s office, they said I can’t complete the Special Marriage Act procedure here and must do it in Delhi. Could you please guide me on how I can register my marriage in Delhi under the Special Marriage Act in this situation?
You can marry in Delhi under the Special Marriage Act if either you or your partner has stayed in Delhi for at least 30 days. You will need valid address proof, passports, and a notice of intended marriage filed with the Delhi Marriage Registrar. After 30 days’ notice, the marriage can be solemnized legally.
