The law specifies a few points to note regarding court marriage procedures in order to prevent any troubles. The following considerations should be made by couples who choose the traditional path and then get married in court.

There are certain eligibility criteria that need to be taken care of, by the willing partners who choose to get married in court:

Age Criteria: In India, child marriage is forbidden. Both the partners must attain the legal age, whereas a boy and girl must be at least 21 years and 18 years old respectively.

Valid Consent: Both partners need to be in good physical and mental health for their individual valid consent for the marriage

Non-Prohibited Relationship: Unless their customs or traditions permit such marriage, the parties must not fall within the range of prohibited relationships.

No Living Spouse: Both the partners must not have in any kind of married relationship or their spouse already living with them.

A) For Bride & Groom

Age proof: High school Marksheet or birth certificate

Address Proof: Aadhar Card / PAN Card / Voter ID / Driving License / Ration Card

Photos: 6 passport-size photos for each

No Active Relationship: Only for those who were in a previous relationship, Divorce decree from the court or death certificate of spouse.

B) For the Witnesses

1) Passport size photos

2) PAN Card

3) For the identification of the person any proof such as a driving license, Aadhar Card, or Voter ID.

C) For the foreign residents

1) If you are a foreigner and want to perform a court marriage you also need to have the above-mentioned documents.

2) For the non-resident of India, a NOC from the embassy is required.

3) A Passport is also required.
