I gave a construction contract to a builder in Chennai for an 800 sq. ft. property. As per the contract, the construction was to be completed by June 2025. Currently, the builder has completed work only up to wall plastering. According to the contract, I am required to pay ₹1,20,000 only upon completion. However, the builder is now demanding ₹75,000 to resume the work and has stopped construction. Since I am presently in Delhi, how can I take legal action?
Since the builder has stopped work and is demanding extra money, you can first send a legal notice citing the contract terms. If no response, file a civil suit for breach of contract in court or seek arbitration, depending on contract terms. Do not pay extra money unless legally agreed, and retain all communication and receipts as evidence. For further legal assistance contact us on our helpline number.
