I had taken a small piece of agricultural land on a one-year lease and agreed to pay the rent in two installments, six months apart. I paid the first installment (64% of total rent), but due to financial problems, I am leaving the land before the second installment is due. The landlord is forcing me to pay the second installment. Am I legally required to pay it?
If you left the land before the second rent installment was due and it's not mentioned in the agreement that full rent is payable even if farming stops, you can negotiate with the landlord. However, if the lease terms require full payment, he may have a valid claim. Consult a local lawyer for settlement or defense. For further legal assistance contact us on our helpline number.
