MACT
Motor Vehicle Act 1988, (MACT Act) governs all elements of road transport vehicles and covers all aspects such as traffic laws, vehicle insurance, motor vehicle registration, permits and penalties.
Object:
This Act aims at granting relief to the innocent people on the road who are victims of accidents and could not find any claim to compensation that they should normally receive. Another compliance covered by it is that all the vehicle drivers shall possess a driving licence under this Act and the registration of a vehicle under the Act, which has a 15-year validity duration and can be renewed for another 5-year period.
Offences Covered Under The Act:
- Driving without any licence,
- Allowing someone without a licence to drive a vehicle owned by the vehicle owner,
- Failed to possess all of the relevant documents required to operate a motor vehicle on Indian roads,
- Driving without a permit
- Driving without a vehicle fitness report and registration certificate.
- Operation of a vehicle by a minor.
- Allowing an unauthorised individual to drive a vehicle.
- Riding motor vehicles without a helmet.
- Driving without fastening the driver’s seat belt.
- Exceeding the speed limit and rash driving.
- Driving against the flow of traffic in a one-way lane.
Few Important Sections:
Section 113: Enforcement of the law regarding the weight that is permitted to be carried by a vehicle.
Section 112: Law regarding the maximum speed at which a motor vehicle can be driven.
Section 129: Imposes the law of motor cyclists having to wear helmet while riding.
Section 134: Deals with the duty of a driver of a vehicle to report an accident to the police and aid the injured by getting medical attention.
Section 185: Forbids drivers to drive under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
