The Department of Labor regulates the Shop and Establishment Act for the premises where any trade, business or profession is carried out. The Act regulates the working commercial establishments, societies, charitable trusts, printing establishments, educational institutions. This Act mentions the working hours, rest interval for employees, opening and closing hours, closed days, national and religious holidays, overtime work, rules for employment of children, annual leave, maternity leave, sickness and casual leave, etc.

Who Is Chief Inspector Under The Act
This Act covers the responsibilities of the Chief Inspector. He is in charge of managing the Act’s guidelines. The owner, employer, or manager of the shop or establishment, shall be punished with a fine that shall not be less than 25/- Rupees and which may extend to 250/- Rupees, or as may be prescribed under the Act, upon conviction for any violation of any provision of the Act.
