Is the landlord's deduction from my deposit justified after vacating?

I live in a rented flat in Mumbai. I vacated it 1.5 months ago and left a deposit of Rs. 10,000. When the landlord returned the deposit, they deducted 70% of it for missing soap, a piece of tamarind, cleaning charges, and AC maintenance, even though the house was cleaned. Is this deduction justified?

The landlord cannot make unjustified deductions from your deposit. If you feel the deductions are unfair, you can send a legal notice demanding the return of your full deposit. If the issue isn't resolved, you can file a complaint with the consumer court for unfair treatment and recovery of your deposit. For further legal assistance contact us on our helpline number.
