What action if society member refuses document handover?

I live in a complex with 40 flats. Our committee is not registered. We used to have yearly meetings and selected 8 members informally. Last year, due to COVID, one person ran the society alone. This year, a new committee was formed, but the same person refuses to cooperate or hand over documents and cheque books. He is making decisions alone and calling meetings separately. What legal action can we take if he refuses to hand over society documents?

If the committee is not registered, you can still serve a legal notice to the individual demanding return of society records. If he refuses, file a police complaint under sections like criminal breach of trust. You may also approach the Registrar of Societies for guidance or register the committee for formal authority.
