Do I need a guardianship letter for school admission in Mumbai?
My cousin is a single parent working in Israel. Last year, she left India for work, and at that time, her daughter was in 4th standard and staying with her neighbor. We did not make any legal guardianship document, but now her daughter will be staying with us, and we are applying for school admission in Goregaon West, Mumbai. Her previous school was in Santacruz. My questions are: Will we need a guardianship letter to admit her to school since her mother is in Israel and won’t return for the next few years? If the guardianship letter is required, does it need to be registered or notarized? If it needs to be notarized, the problem is that her mother is not here. Is it still possible to make the letter?
For school admission, a guardianship letter may be required, especially for a child staying away from her biological parent. This document can be notarized or registered. If the mother is unavailable, she can sign it remotely, and the letter can be notarized by a notary public in Israel. For further legal assistance contact us on our helpline number.
