What legal steps can I take for child custody and expenses?
Sir, my husband didn't pay for maternity expenses. He also denied paying child expenses, which led me to leave his house. I regularly contributed to household expenses, and in addition, he made me buy certain furniture items for the home, saying I should pay for them. I was on bed rest during my pregnancy, and apart from the pick-and-drop service to the doctor, he didn't help me with anything. I want custody of the child. How can I proceed?
If your husband has not paid maternity and child expenses, and you have been supporting the household, you can file for child custody and alimony. Under the Domestic Violence Act or Section 144 of the Bhartiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023 you are entitled to maintenance. It is advised to consult an expert lawyer to file for custody and claim expenses.
