Can we marry in church and also register marriage?
I am a Christian boy (28 years old), and my girlfriend is Hindu (25 years old). We plan to get married, and our parents have permitted our inter-religion marriage. My questions are: Can we get married in a church with Christian rituals and then register the marriage at the marriage registration office? Is this legally possible? What is your advice on how we should proceed?
You can marry under the Special Marriage Act (SMA), which is neutral to religion. A church marriage alone may not be legally valid unless registered separately. If you still wish for church rituals, first marry under SMA and later perform religious ceremonies. SMA ensures your marriage is legally valid regardless of religion.
