How to perform inter religion marriage?
I want to marry a Muslim boy. I am a Hindu girl, and we are both 25 years old and living in Dehradun. Please guide us about the legal process. I also want to change my religion. What is the correct procedure for this? Can I change my religion before marriage or after marriage? And is it possible to change my religion before marriage without informing my family and in a safe way?
Dear Client, You can get married under the Special Marriage Act, 1954. The couple must give a written Notice of Intended Marriage in the prescribed form to the Marriage Officer of the district where at least one of them has resided for a period of not less than thirty days immediately preceding the date on which the notice is given. Documents like proof of age, residence, and a copy of the divorce decree will be required. After filing the form, you will have to wait for 30 days to see if there is any objection to the marriage. If there is none, marriage can take place within three months from the date of the notice of marriage. I hope this answer helps you. For any further queries, please do not hesitate to contact us. Thank you.
Since both of you are 25, you can legally do court marriage under the Special Marriage Act without family permission. You will need basic ID/address proofs, photos, and two witnesses. A 30-day notice is issued by the Marriage Registrar, after which your marriage is legally registered. No conversion is required. For further legal assistance contact us on our helpline number.
