What to do if parents don’t approve our relationship?
I’m in a relationship, but neither my parents nor hers approve of it. I don’t know what to do.
Dear Client, As per the law in India, any two consenting adults, who satisfy the conditions prescribed in either the personal law applicable to them or the Special Marriage Act, 1954, can marry each other. Such a marriage would be legal/valid with or without the permission of parents. Have an honest conversation with both the parents and proceed in the manner that you consider appropriate. If you need legal protection do contact us or any local legal aid bodies. I hope this answer helps. In case of future queries, please feel free to contact us. Thank you.
Kindly do direct call for better consultation, after knowing all the facts we can provide you legal advice. - Komal Tyagi Advocate Justice In You Law Firm
If both of you are adults and in a consensual relationship, the law protects your right to choose your partner. Parents may disagree emotionally, but legally, they cannot stop two adults from being together. You both can do court marriage or live together without needing parental consent.
