How can I lawfully move out without my parents' permission?
Hi, I'm a 20-year-old female. My parents don’t let me go outside, and I have no freedom. I want to move out and have no contact with my parents. My parents are abusive. I went to the local police station with a handwritten letter stating that I am an adult female and I want to move out/run away without my parents' permission. The police said that females, even though they are adults, need permission from their parents to move out or run away. The police threatened to call my father to the police station. I begged them not to call him. The police said if I run away, they will file a missing persons FIR and bring me back to my parents. How can I lawfully move out without my parents' permission?
As an adult, you have the right to move out without your parents' permission. If you are facing abuse, you can approach the police or file a complaint under the Domestic Violence Act. Police cannot force you to stay with your parents unless there is a valid reason. Seek legal advice to ensure your rights are protected.
