What should I do if names differ on documents?
Hi, my name appears differently across various documents, which is causing confusion. For example, on Aadhaar it is "K. Narender Kumar," on my Voter ID it is "Narendera Kuamra," on my marks sheets it is "Narenedara Kumaara" (with father's name as "K," which is my initial), on my PAN card it's "K. Narendar Kumar" (based on Aadhaar), on my bike registration and credit/debit cards it's "K Narendar Kumar," and in my office records it's "Narendar Kumar" with father's name as "K." I’ve registered for term insurance and LIC using the Aadhaar name, and my Demat account and other financial services like Paytm and PhonePe are also linked to Aadhaar. I'm unsure what to do now—if I change the name on my Aadhaar, do I need to inform my current employer? Everyone suggests aligning the Aadhaar name with the one on my marks sheets, but the marks sheet name is also different. If I update my Aadhaar name, will I have to update it across all services, including insurance, Demat, and others? Please advise.
To resolve the name mismatch legally, choose one consistent name (preferably as per your marks sheet for education/employment purposes). Then, apply for a name correction in Aadhaar and update all other documents gradually. You may need to submit an affidavit, a newspaper publication, and a Gazette notification to officially declare the name change. For further legal assistance contact us on our helpline number.
