Important Steps To Claim Fire Insurance In India

There are certain steps everyone should follow to claim their fire insurance. These are the steps everyone needs to follow to claim their fire insurance - 

 

  1. Inform Your Insurance Company

Since you want to claim your fire insurance from the company, it is your responsibility to contact your fire insurance company. You can contact them by calling on their helpline number or visiting the office. Also, you have to estimate the amount of damage due to the fire.

 

  1. Survey Report Of Your Property

Once you contact your insurance company to claim your fire insurance. They will appoint an officer or surveyor to prepare a report regarding your loss & important details. 

  • If the loss caused by fire is small (around 20,000), the insurance company will appoint an officer to survey the loss & prepare a report on it.
  • If a large amount of loss is caused by fire, the insurance company will appoint an independent officer. They act as a surveyor who has a government license to survey the loss.

 

The Survey Report contains the following details - 

 

  • Surveyor’s License Number
  • Policy & Claim Number
  • Sum Assured
  • Verification Of Record & Valuation

 

  1. Send Intimation To Register Your Claim

 

As per the insurance act, it is necessary to register your claim by an intimation letter.

 

The intimation letter must contain the following details - 

 

  1.  Name & Address of the person (Who wants to claim the fire insurance)
  2. Policy Number & Claim Number
  3. Date Of Accident (On which fire occurred)
  4. Place where the fire took place
  5. Sum assured by the insurance company
  6. Name of the surveyor as per survey report
  7. Amount of claim as per report

 

4.  Submit The Claim Form 

 

It is important for the policyholder to submit the claim form. 

 

The claim form must contain the following details - 

 

  • Name & Address Of the person
  • Date of loss, time & place where the fire occurred
  • Cause Of Fire
  • Details Of damaged property
  • Policy details of the person 
  • Fire Brigade Report Details

 

 5. Settlement Or Getting Money from your fire insurance claims

 

After getting the survey report & claim form, the person can get the insurance claim from the insurance company.
