Can legal action arise for not serving notice period?

I accepted the company's offer letter and completed the application formalities. However, after joining, I resigned on the second day due to location-related and other personal issues. According to the offer letter, a 50-day notice period would apply from the first day of joining. I resigned without completing the notice period. Subsequently, the HR department informed me that my appointment had been cancelled due to behavioural issues. The offer letter mentioned the notice period but did not specify any notice pay requirement. The appointment letter was signed by me, and my father signed as a witness. In these circumstances, could any legal issue arise because I did not serve the complete notice period? What are my legal rights and obligations?

If the offer letter mentioned a 50-day notice period but did not provide for notice pay, the company may not automatically recover any amount from you. Since you resigned on the second day and the company cancelled your appointment, serious legal consequences are generally unlikely. Preserve all documents and communications. If the company later raises any claim, respond in writing and seek legal advice. For further legal assistance contact us on our helpline number.
