What can I do if temple misuses my donation?

Sir, I donated silver ornaments (Kireedam and Jadari) to our village Perumal temple at Pulivalam, Trichy District, two years ago. They haven't been properly maintained — no regular poojas are being performed, and the items are kept rusting in the loft. In fact, they are now searching for them. Since I am not satisfied with their maintenance, I would like to take custody of the ornaments to perform regular poojas at my home and return them to the temple whenever required. Am I right in doing so?

Once you donate ornaments to a temple, they legally become temple property under Tamil Nadu law. You can’t take them back without permission. However, you can write to the HR&CE office or temple authorities requesting proper care or temporary custody for rituals, with a written agreement. Don’t try to take them on your own, it could be illegal. Always go through official channels for any concerns. For further legal assistance contact us on our helpline number.
