How can you legally recover unpaid wages from employer?

I worked for a person/employer, but my pending wages of approximately ₹1,000–₹1,500 have not been paid. I have repeatedly requested payment, but I have still not received the amount. I have call records and other relevant evidence related to the matter. What legal action can I take to recover my unpaid wages? Can I send a legal notice or file a complaint? Can I also claim reasonable legal expenses incurred for recovering my wages?

If your wages remain unpaid, preserve call records, messages, attendance records, and any proof of employment or payment. You may first make a written demand to the employer and, if payment is still refused, approach the appropriate Labour Department or authority. A legal notice can also be sent. Recovery of legal expenses depends on the applicable law and the court or authority's order. For further legal assistance contact us on our helpline number.
