Hello, I am from Jammu and the girl is from Kanpur. We wish to get a court marriage in Kanpur High Court. Could you please let us know the process and the applicable fees? We are both Hindus, but belong to different castes.

Court Marriages are solemnized at the marriage registrar office only so you cannot solemnize your marriage in the High Court , in your case the marriage is to be solemnized under the special marriage act and you have to satisfy the condition given under the section 4 of the Special Marriage Act , the fees for the marriage differs from state to state so i suggest you to take a help of a legal counsel of your district to get out of this situation.

Court marriage is not performed in the High Court; you need to apply under the Special Marriage Act, 1954 at the Marriage Registrar’s Office. You must give a 30-day notice at the Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) office, and after verification the marriage will be solemnized. Required documents include age proof, address proof, photographs, and affidavits. Fees vary but generally range from ₹500 to ₹2,000 depends on the state and additional certification charges.
