Can I perform marriage with my cousin?

Dear Sir, I hope this message finds you well. I am writing to ask you a question regarding cousin marriage. My cousin and I love each other and wish to marry, but we are facing some challenges. We are both from a Hindu caste, and she is my second cousin. We would like to marry, but unfortunately, our parents do not agree with our decision. She is 21 years old, and I am 30 years old. Could you please advise us on whether it is possible for us to marry, and if so, what steps we should take? Your guidance would mean a lot to us. Thank you for taking the time to consider our situation. We look forward to your response.

Under the Hindu Marriage Act, 1955, cousin marriage is generally prohibited unless permitted by your caste customs. If your community allows it, you can marry legally, either under Hindu law or the Special Marriage Act, 1954 if needed. Since both of you are adults, parental consent is not legally required, but addressing their concerns through discussion may help.

Sir, in this case you have to firstly check that your relationship doesn’t fall under Sapinda relationship, if it falls then it is not possible to get married. For further legal assistance contact us on our helpline number.
