What legal steps can we take against tenant’s intimidation and damage?

I rented my house in Feb 2023 to a tenant (a lawyer) with a signed agreement. I took Rs. 20,000 as a security deposit and 1 month’s rent in advance. In March 2024, I requested a 10% rent increase as per the agreement, but he refused and asked for 3 more months at the same rate. Out of sympathy, I agreed. After 3 months, he still didn’t vacate and asked for 2 more months. He left on 30 Aug 2024 but withheld the key, demanding his deposit back. We insisted on inspecting the house first, but he refused. I used my spare key to enter the house the next day and found significant damages, including to freshly painted walls, AC pipelines, and more. Repair estimates are around Rs. 80,000 just for proper wall restoration. I refused to return his deposit due to the repair costs. Now, he is threatening my wife over the phone, demanding the deposit and using his profession to intimidate us. What legal steps can we take in this situation?

Sir, you can send a legal notice to the tenant outlining the damages, the cost of repairs, and your refusal to return the security deposit and you can also file his complaint in the bar council as well as in the police station. For further legal assistance contact us on our helpline number.
