Is physical presence of both the parties is required for marriage reggistration?

I am seeking assistance with registering a marriage in India and obtaining a marriage certificate. The marriage was performed through a Hindu ceremony, but it has not yet been legally registered. I would like to know whether the registration process can be completed through a Power of Attorney (POA) granted to the fathers of both parties, as both parties are currently not physically available in India. However, they may be available virtually/online if required, and all supporting documents can be provided, such as photographs, wedding invitation card, priest’s letter, etc. The boy is from Surat, the girl is from Sanpada, Navi Mumbai, and the marriage was solemnized in Turbhe, Navi Mumbai. Kindly advise on the following: • Whether marriage registration is possible without the physical presence of both parties • The process and documents required • Your professional fees and expected timeline

Since your marriage was already performed through Hindu rites, it should be registered under the Hindu Marriage Act, 1955. Usually, both husband and wife must appear personally before the Marriage Registrar for final verification and signatures. POA through parents is generally not accepted. Online filing may start the process, but one physical visit is usually required with documents and witnesses. For further legal assistance contact us on our helpline number.
