What if husband ignores divorce case—will I get alimony?

It has been two years since my divorce case started, but my husband has not attended court even once. He has behaved this way since we married. It has been four years since I was thrown out of my in-laws’ house with a demand for ₹5 lakhs. I have suffered mental and physical torture. I have even survived a week without food while living there. My husband has threatened me many times. Earlier, my father was bearing my expenses. I became ill because of my in-laws and am still suffering and fighting for my life. Since my husband has never appeared, the judge made the case ex parte. Now I want to know who will benefit or be disadvantaged at this stage. Will I get divorce and alimony? What should I do to get a quicker response from the court? I prefer replies by email rather than calls.

Since your husband didn’t appear and the case is ex parte, the court may grant divorce in your favor. You can also claim alimony based on your suffering. To speed up, consult a family lawyer who can help file proper petitions and keep following up with the court. Keep all medical and proof documents ready.
