Will Indian laws apply if we marry in Denmark?
Hello, I have a question regarding marriages conducted abroad. My fiancé and I live in Denmark, and we wish to get officially married in Denmark itself. We are happy to register this marriage with the Indian authorities as per the requirements. In this case, if our marriage is conducted in Denmark, will Indian laws apply to our marriage or Danish laws? What happens if I move to another country, say the US? Will US laws become applicable, or will Danish or Indian laws apply? What happens if I move back to India? Will Indian laws suddenly apply, or will the Danish laws continue to apply since the marriage was conducted in Denmark? Is it possible for my wife to take action against me using dowry or domestic violence laws of India if we are married abroad? Looking forward to your reply. Thanks.
When married abroad, Indian laws do not automatically apply, but you can register the marriage in India to make it legally recognized. If you move to another country, the laws of that country will apply. If you return to India, Indian laws may apply but will depend on your residency status and where the marriage took place.
