As a freelance video editor based in India but working for a client out of Seattle, who make videos related to cannabis, the legal risks could be associated with the job. Cannabis remains illegal for recreative purposes in India under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act. However, the legal standing varies significantly from one country to another. In this regard, videos advocating or that have footage related to illegal activities of marijuana will come under judicial scrutiny of the Indian courts. However if the content is compliant with local laws in Washington state where your client operates, your risk will be lower. Seek advice from a lawyer to understand this in-depth.

In India, most forms of cannabis are prohibited from production, sale, and possession through the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, except with strict regulation for specific purposes and you as a freelance video editor working for a client that produces content relating to the cannabis market, you are liable to experience legal liabilities Video editing related to the promotion of illegal cannabis activities could land you in legal risk. Therefore, although your risk may be diluted in following the string of local laws centered on issues of legality or medicinal use, you will seek advice from a lawyer to determine your position precisely.
