How can couples get protection against family marriage threats?

My boyfriend and I are adults and have been in a relationship for the last seven years. We now want to get married, but my family does not agree. They are threatening me, emotionally blackmailing me, and putting pressure on me to end the relationship. They have also threatened to file a false FIR against my boyfriend and send him to jail. We have been trying for the last two years to convince our families so that we can marry with everyone's blessings, but they still refuse to accept our relationship and continue to threaten us. What legal steps can I take to protect my boyfriend and ourselves from these threats?

If both of you are adults, you have the legal right to marry by choice. If your family is threatening you or your boyfriend, submit a written complaint to the police seeking protection. If no action is taken, you may approach the High Court under Indian Constitution Article 226 seeking protection of your life and liberty.
