How can I recover lease money without a written agreement?

Good morning, I took a house on lease in Ramnagar for ₹3.5 lakhs, but due to some personal issues, I’m no longer living there. Since February 2023, I have been asking the owner to return the money, but he refuses. No lease agreement was made, and the police told me that he is a lawyer and advised me to collect the money when he returns it. I have received no support from the police. It’s been over a year now, and I am living in a PG or with friends. Please help me understand how I can legally recover my money from him.

Since there is no written lease agreement, recovery is difficult but not impossible. Send a legal notice through a lawyer demanding the return of ₹3.5 lakhs. If he still refuses, file a civil suit for recovery in court. You can also file a complaint with the consumer forum for unfair practice.
