What does "competent to grant a license" mean for NMC registration?
In the NMC 2021 Gazette, it is mentioned that if we complete our MBBS from foreign countries, we are not eligible for permanent registration in India unless we are "registered with the respective professional regulatory body or otherwise competent to grant a license to practice medicine in the jurisdiction of the country where the medical degree was awarded, and at par with the license to practice medicine given to the citizens of that country." What does "competent to grant a license" mean? Am I eligible for registration in India even if I did not obtain a license to practice in the foreign country?
You need to be registered with the medical licensing authority in the foreign country, equivalent to India's medical license. If not, you are not eligible for permanent registration in India. You can check with NMC for specific guidance. For further legal assistance contact us on our helpline number.
