Can I get OBC caste certificate?
Hello Sir/Ma’am, I was born and have been domiciled in Maharashtra, and my entire education has been completed here. My father is originally from Madhya Pradesh but permanently shifted to Maharashtra a long time ago. My caste is listed in the OBC category in both Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh. I applied for an OBC caste certificate in Maharashtra, but it was refused because I could not provide residence proof in Maharashtra prior to 1967. Can I apply for an OBC caste certificate in Madhya Pradesh instead? Will they issue it to me under these circumstances? Kindly advice.
Dear Client, Since your caste is recognized as OBC both in Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh but you are unable to meet Maharashtra’s requirement of proving residence prior to 1967, you will not be able to obtain an OBC caste certificate in Maharashtra; however, you can apply in Madhya Pradesh on the strength of your father’s origin and ancestral linkage there, and if granted, that certificate will entitle you to OBC benefits for Central Government jobs/education as well as in Madhya Pradesh, though it will not be valid for Maharashtra State-level benefits, where you would continue to be treated as a general category candidate. I hope this answer helps. For any further queries, please do not hesitate to contact us. Thank You.
Since your father permanently shifted to Maharashtra but you do not have residence proof prior to 1967, the authorities in Maharashtra may not issue an OBC certificate. However, as your caste is recognized as OBC in Madhya Pradesh, you can apply there based on your father’s origin and caste status. You should approach the local Tehsildar/SDO in Madhya Pradesh with the necessary documents. For further legal assistance, please contact us on our helpline number.
