Dear client, The fee imposed by the court on a contempt petition is not uniform across India as each High Court has its fee schedule as provided by Section 23 of the Contempt of Courts Act 1971. The respective Court fees Act 1870 that contains nominal court fees mandates that High Courts impose a fee between 50 and 200 in form of their filing fee. The High Court Rules have discontinued the one standard fee and prescribe the necessary procedures and the fees. The supporting affidavits that are attached to the petition along with other documents that have been filed are verified by Section 61 and 63 C of the Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam 2023. Dear Client, The court fee for a contempt petition varies throughout India because each High Court establishes its own fee schedule under Section 23 of the Contempt of Courts Act 1971. The respective Court Fees Act 1870 which states nominal court fees requires High Courts to charge between ₹50 and ₹200 as their filing fee. High Court Rules determine both the required procedures and the applicable fees instead of establishing a single standard fee. The supporting affidavits which accompany the petition together with other filed documents receive authentication through Sections 61 and 63 of the Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam 2023.

The court fee for filing a contempt petition is usually small, but it is not the same everywhere. It depends on whether the case is filed in the High Court or Supreme Court and the rules of that court. Apart from court fee, advocate and filing charges may also apply. It is best to confirm the exact amount before filing.  For further legal assistance contact us on our helpline number.
