Bought land from X, seller Y died—what now?

I purchased a piece of land from X in July 2021. It was registered and mutated in my name. X had acquired it from Y in June 2021. Now, I’ve received a legal notice about a court order for an interim injunction. It turns out Y died in May 2021—before the sale to X. I have the sale deeds between X and Y. What should I do now, and what will happen to my property?

Since Y died before the sale to X, that transaction is invalid. Your purchase from X may also be legally challenged. Immediately hire a lawyer and respond to the court notice. You may need to file a case to protect your possession. Court may cancel the sale if fraud is proven. For further legal assistance contact us on our helpline number.
