Can I claim compensation legally if damaged by society leakage?
I rent a house in a gated society in Bangalore. For the past few years, there has been a leakage from the podium to the parking area, which has damaged my car’s paint. Despite raising the issue and requesting compensation from the management committee (MC), they refused. I notified them about deducting repair costs from maintenance, but they later demanded full payment with interest. What legal steps can I take?
Send a legal notice to the management committee demanding reimbursement. If they refuse, file a complaint with the Consumer Forum for damages caused due to negligence. You may also deduct charges after legal notice but avoid doing so without formal steps as they can charge interest or penalties. For further legal assistance contact us on our helpline number.
