How to give up land in Orissa without traveling?

How is land distribution done, and how can I give up land? I am 24 years old, and my father passed away two months ago. My mother received a call from the village to give up land in Orissa. They want to sell the land and remove our names from it. We don’t want the land and are scared to go to Orissa because they might harm us. We don’t have the land papers for Orissa. What should we do if we don't go? Can we tell them to come here instead? Please explain in simple terms.
