What to do if advocate delays bail in rape case?

I live in the Thrissur district of Kerala. I am married. My father-in-law was arrested in a rape case three months ago and is currently in jail. After three months, I hired an advocate to apply for his bail. The advocate said he had filed for bail in the appropriate jurisdiction, which was rejected, and then filed again in the district court. It has now been a month since I handed over the case, but there has been no update. When I contact the advocate, he says he is waiting for a report. I am unsure whether this is true or just an excuse due to his busy schedule. I have already paid the advance he requested, and my wife is pressuring me to take further steps. The accused is also a heart patient. What should I do now?

If your lawyer is not cooperating, you can change your advocate and get a new one to follow up. Bail delays can happen due to pending reports, but you can request a speedy hearing in the District Court. File a status inquiry through the court or ask the new advocate to push the process faster.
