Can I request honorarium for administrative and social media work?

I’m writing to request that, considering the scale and seriousness of my involvement — including professional and administrative responsibilities such as documentation, online coordination, drafting official letters, and managing the clinic’s visibility through social media (e.g., Instagram posts, stories, and updates), as well as providing support during sensitive situations or external inquiries based on mutual understanding — it would be fair and appropriate for an honorarium reflecting the true value of my contributions to be respectfully considered and settled at this stage.

Dear Client, Yes. It is perfectly fine for you to demand an honorarium for the work and responsibilities undertaken, provided there was no prior agreement the work would be undertaken on a voluntary basis. Draft the request for honorarium in the manner of a gesture in good faith, emphasizing the commitment involved. I hope this answer helps. In case of future queries, please feel free to contact us. Thank you.

You can a send a request for a Memorandum of Work from the organisation with details making sure it falls under the definition of Employment or Employment or a Work Contract or Individual Advisor.

The Indian Contract Act, 1872, validates both oral and written contracts if they meet conditions of offer, acceptance, lawful object, and consideration (Section 10). Though oral contracts lack written terms, hindering enforcement, Section 70 mandates compensation if one benefits from another's non-gratuitous act. Implied contracts can arise from written/digital correspondence (Section 73 for damages). A summary recovery suit (Order 37 CPC) can be filed, supported by electronic evidence. *West Bengal vs B.K. Mondal & Sons* affirmed compensation for beneficial work even without a formal contract.

You can send a formal written request stating your roles and contributions and politely ask for a fair honorarium. If you have proof of your work, it will strengthen your claim. If they refuse to pay despite clear contributions, you may consider a legal notice or consult a lawyer for further action. For further legal assistance contact us on our helpline number.
