Does making fake promises over phone/chat without transaction constitute offense?
Does making fake promises over the phone/chat amount to any legal offense, especially if no money was transacted? A person promised to come and purchase an item from me on OLX, then kept me waiting all day, giving excuses. Later, he said he was just teaching me a lesson because I was rude. He interpreted my being rude as saying "yes but no hard bargain" when he asked if the item was available. He gave his number, I called, and he told me he would come the next day. The entire day, he kept saying he was coming, reaching, or near, and then didn’t answer my call. Later, he said, “Who is this?” and then said, “I was teaching you a lesson, tumhara kaat diya.” I have a recording of his phone call and screenshots of the OLX and WhatsApp chat, with the phone number visible but not his name. Does this constitute a legal offense?
The behavior of promising something and then failing to follow through may not amount to a legal offense, especially if no money was transacted. However, the situation could be considered harassment or fraud in certain circumstances, especially if there's evidence of deceptive intent. It's advisable to consult a lawyer regarding the legality of your case. For further legal assistance contact us on our helpline number.
