Can I claim marriage expenses instead of alimony in divorce?

Due to irreconcilable differences, I have decided to separate from my husband. I want to understand the legal steps to initiate the process. Instead of alimony, can I claim all the expenses incurred by me and my family during and after the marriage, including banquet hall costs, furniture, electronics, cash gifts, clothes, sarees, gold, and silver? I have communicated my decision to my husband, but he is in denial and says I am free to do whatever I want. We have been living separately for a month, and there has been no communication from his or his family's side to reconcile. Before leaving his house, I also discovered through a friend that my husband is active on a dating app.

You can file for divorce based on irreconcilable differences. Instead of alimony, claiming marriage and post-marriage expenses (gifts, gold, furniture) may be difficult unless fraud or dowry demand is proven. Collect proof of your spending. Mention his dating app activity as possible misconduct. If he denies reconciliation, proceed legally with a divorce petition. For further legal assistance contact us on our helpline number.
