How can I obtain my parents’ marriage certificate?
I would like to inquire about how to obtain a marriage certificate for my parents. They are over 60 years old and live in Gujarat. I am an international student based in France, and I will require my parents’ marriage certificate for future visa purposes. Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Dear Client, Since many marriages in Gujarat in earlier decades were not registered, your parents should first check with the local Marriage Registrar where they married to see if a certificate already exists; if not, they can apply for late registration under the Gujarat Registration of Marriages Act, 2006, by providing proof of marriage (such as wedding photos, invitation card, or priest’s letter), age and residence proof, and affidavits with witnesses, after which the Registrar will issue a certificate, which you can then have apostilled by the Ministry of External Affairs in India for it to be valid in France. I hope this answer helps, for any further queries, please do not hesitate to contact us. Thank You
If your parents never registered their marriage earlier, they can apply for a marriage certificate in Gujarat bu visting marriage registrar office. They need age proofs, address proofs, photographs, and proof of marriage (like wedding photos or witnesses). They must both appear before the registrar. You can later use the certificate for visa purposes. For further legal assistance contact us on our helpline number.
