Dear Client, You can apply for a contested divorce under Section 13(1)(ia) of the Hindu Marriage Act on grounds of mental cruelty. Financial demands and harassments have been legally recognized for the termination of a marriage. To apply for a contested divorce, you have to petition through a Family Court Advocate and show documentary evidence of their greed and extortion in the form of bank records, chat transcripts, and recordings. I hope this answer is helpful. In case of further queries, please do not hesitate to contact us. Thank You.

If your wife or in-laws are demanding money or harassing you, it may amount to cruelty. Under Hindu Marriage Act, 1955, cruelty is a valid ground for divorce (Section 13). Collect evidence (messages, calls, witnesses). Consult a family lawyer to file a divorce petition or take appropriate legal action. For further legal assistance contact us on our helpline number.
