How to marry safely despite threats and family opposition?

I am 25 and from Himachal; the girl is 22 and from Bhopal. I’ve completed my Master’s and she her Bachelor’s. We love each other mutually. Her family (father and cousins) strongly opposes our relationship and is threatening me over calls and messages with false cases, abusive language, and even death threats to me and my parents. I haven't informed my parents yet but believe they will support us and help us financially until we become independent. We are planning for her to safely leave Bhopal and come to Himachal, where we will do a court marriage and start our life. We seek legal advice on how to stay protected from physical harm, false FIRs, or harassment, and how we can proceed with a lawful marriage under such conditions. We also want to ensure our safety and that this situation doesn’t harm our future career or educational prospects. Please guide us on the proper legal steps to take for marriage, protection, and self-security.

You both are legally allowed to marry without parental consent. You can perform court marriage under the Special Marriage Act in Himachal. If her family is threatening you, file a police complaint and ask for protection. Keep evidence of threats. The court can help protect you and stop false FIRs. Your future career won’t be affected legally. It is advised to consult an expert matrimonial lawyer who will assist you with the smooth procedure of court marriage.
